Quick Update on Me

Just wanted to let you all know that my second round of radioactive iodine has been scheduled. It will be Wednesday, November 10. They are doing things a little differently this time. I do not have to go off my thyroid hormone medication at all this time. This is wonderful because that 6 week withdraw was hard the first time around and I knew it would be even worse this time. Instead, I will stay on my medication until the Sunday before. Then on Monday and Tuesday before the procedure I will get injections of a medication called Thyrogen. Basically this is synthetic TSH and will cause me TSH to shoot up very quickly as opposed to withdrawing from the meds and gradually raising my TSH. I will then get the high dose of the radioactive iodine on Wednesday and be in total seclusion for 2 days. On Friday, I will go for a full body scan. Then will remain at Mom and Dad's house through the following Wednesday to protect my babes from their green, glowing Momma! This will be tough again, but at least after this we will be done and the chance of recurrence in the next 15-20 will be nearly nonexistent. Totally worth it to me! Sorry this turned out to be a not so quick update.
